This fried spelt dish is a simple and hearty recipe that is both healthy and satisfying. An ideal dish that also works as a part of a fasting cure according to Hildegard of Bingen. Those who like it a little more grainy can use the pre-cooked dark grains. As an alternative, the dark grains are chopped prior to roasting.
Ingredients for Fried Spelt Berries
- 1 serving of cooked spelt grains
- 1 small Onion
- Butter lard
- Fresh herbs, at your discretion (e.g. parsley, basil, coriander, mint leaves, chives)
Preparing Fried Spelt Berries
Chop the cooked spelt grains to a coarse consistency, based on personal preference. Fry the chopped onion in butter, add the cooked spelt grains and roast the combination until crispy. Season to taste with selected fresh herbs. Serve with a fresh green salad.
